In May 2024, as part of the European Week of Waste Reduction (EWWR) and in anticipation of the Blue Flag season, the Eko-Skola Committees of Sacred Heart Junior and Senior schools collaborated on an impactful beach cleanup at Golden Bay. Students and educators not only collected visible litter but also focused on gathering micro-plastics, helping to make the beach cleaner and safer for both people and wildlife.

This dedicated effort became especially meaningful when, just weeks later, Malta’s first turtle nest of the season was laid on this very beach, a positive reminder of the importance of protecting local habitats. The cleanup served as an inspiring example of how small actions can contribute to larger environmental impacts, reinforcing the school community’s commitment to preserving natural spaces for both current and future generations.
