EU YOUTH CINEMA: GREEN DEAL – FILMS VS. FOOD WASTE
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Worldwide, one third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted. This amount of food waste harbours both economic and environmental impacts. The EWWR community is committed to guiding local and public authorities, private companies, associations, schools and citizens to rethink their relationship with food and raise awareness of the environmental, economic and social impact of food waste.
This year, the EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal is back on board to raise young people’s awareness for the global food crisis. The project offers an exceptional collection of feature-length and short films by European directors, which can be streamed at www.euyc.green. Many films revolve around the struggles and solutions related to food consumption, production and waste management. The entire programme is made available free of charge for registered teachers, all films are accompanied by educational material. Numerous films can be streamed by anyone worldwide without registration.
About the Project:
A sustainable Europe is the focus of the trendsetting EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal project. It is located in the field of European dialogues and is therefore politically absolutely neutral and democratic. The green agenda is brought to young citizens of all backgrounds through films and discussions in cinemas and an innovative, multilingual streaming platform with a strong didactic narrative available at www.euyc.green. The project engages with the young audience on environmental challenges and promotes green habits and a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
The year-round educational programme is freely accessible to all registered schools in 12 countries, and partially also worldwide. It consists of 50+ European films, accompanied by up-to-date didactic materials and thematically related discussions, workshops, and lectures. This documentary follows the changing fortunes of beautiful Lake Prespa, one of the oldest freshwater lakes on Earth, providing a habitat for over 2,000 species of plants and animals, many of them unique to this ancient ecosystem.

EATING DIFFERENTLY: THE EXPERIMENT
Trailer: vimeo.com/letsceeff/eating
Documentary | Directed by Andrea Ernst & Kurt Langbein | Austria 2020 | 84 min | Original with subtitles | 12+
The way we eat is a burden on the climate. But how big is the CO2 burden really and is the claim true that our cattle are actually grazing in the fields of soy farmers in Brazil? For the film EATING DIFFERENTLY: THE EXPERIMENT, a field was planted for the first time with exactly those grains, vegetables, fruits, oilseeds and grasses that end up on our plates per person – and that the industry processes into feed for animals, among other things. The result was a field 4,400 m2 in size, the area of a small soccer field, needed by an “average” person. Two thirds of it are located abroad. In total, we consume twice as much as we are entitled to. If all people were to eat like this, we would need a second Earth. Can anything be done about it? Three families dare to try it out for themselves.

Documentary | Produced by Yann Arthus-Bertrand | Directed by Thierry Piantanida & Baptiste Rouget-Luchaire | France 2012 | 88 min | English with subtitles
Today, against a backdrop of sharply increasing demand, growth in the world population, and the growing impact of an unsettled climate, water has become one of the most precious natural resources on our planet. A THIRSTY WORLD attempts to bring together Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s trademark aerial view of the world with the harsh, everyday reality of all those people who are deprived of water and may even die for lack of it, the people engaged in the daily struggle to find water, purify it, or bring it to those who need it.
”Will we be able to imagine a new culture of water?” – Yann Arthus-Bertrand
