As the Climate Change and Zero Waste Department of the Karabağlar Municipality in İzmir, we provide services to 476,500 residents. Within the service boundaries of our municipality, there are 11 local markets operating six days a week, with one dedicated to clothing and the remaining five to food. Consequently, a significant amount of food waste is generated in our district.

As a public institution, we aim to reduce food waste and prevent wastefulness within our service area. To achieve this goal, on November 20, 2024, we will organize a “Food Saviors!” workshop at the Bozyaka Market, and on November 21, 2024, another workshop at the Yunus Emre Market. These events are designed to teach local families how to produce compost from market waste. Additionally, we will conduct an awareness-raising training session for housewives under the slogan “No Waste on the Table, Respect for the Future” to prevent food waste.
