Kitchen diaries of household food waste

Description:

Kitchen diaries of household food waste

Kitchen diaries of household food waste are part of the CARE4CLIMATE project and are the most comprehensive survey on household food waste in Slovenia. It is a diary recording the amount of food waste produced in the household. Households participating in the survey will record for seven consecutive days the type of food they throw away (e.g. bakery, dairy products, pasta, etc.), its composition – edible or inedible part, and indicate how they managed this food – whether they disposed of it as bio-waste or composted. By participating in the survey, households will contribute valuable data on the amount of food waste to complement the data published annually by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS). The data will also help to design measures to reduce or prevent food waste and to raise awareness. At the same time, households will be able to check how much food they really throw away and which food is most often left over by filling in a kitchen diary. These results will help them to make small changes in their daily lives and save money. We will invite as many households as possible to participate. All data entered will be used only for the purpose of the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project. On a personal level, by keeping a kitchen diary, households gain insights into their actual food waste patterns, which can inspire small but meaningful changes in daily routines. These changes can help families save money, reduce their environmental footprint, and make a direct contribution to Slovenia’s climate goals. The quality of the data is the basis for developing effective measures to reduce or prevent food waste.
Detailed instructions on how to fill in the diaries and the survey participation form, as well as interesting information on food waste in Slovenia and tips on how to reduce it, will be published on 15 November 2024.

Kuhinjski dnevniki odpadne hrane v gospodinjstvu so del projekta CARE4CLIMATE in so najobsežnejša raziskava o količinah odpadne hrane v gospodinjstvih v Sloveniji. S temi rezultati bodo lažje sprejela majhne spremembe v vsakdanjem življenju in s tem prihranila denar.
