As the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, we are launching the “Less Waste, More Flavor!” Instagram Reels Contest as part of the 2024 European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). This initiative is designed as an awareness campaign to reduce food waste and raise awareness about the environmental and economic impacts of food waste within the community.

Food waste is not only an environmental issue, but also leads to inefficient use of resources, economic losses, and rapid depletion of natural resources. In this event, we aim to use the power of digital media to reach a wide audience, spread the message that food waste must be prevented, encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly habits, and promote sustainable consumption practices across the community.

Throughout the week, competition participants will develop unique solutions for reducing food waste in their daily lives and share these ideas through videos on dynamic platforms like Instagram Reels. The videos submitted for the competition will be evaluated by a jury, and the top 3 winners will be selected and rewarded. By participating, everyone will not only create content, but also inspire others, transforming environmental awareness into a societal movement. Thanks to the interactive possibilities provided by digital media, viewers of the competition videos will be encouraged to take action, leading to greater engagement in the fight against food waste.

This initiative also aims to connect with the younger generation. Considering that young people are sensitive to environmental issues and quickly adapt to solution-oriented content, we will ensure that this awareness reaches them through digital platforms. In this way, young people will be encouraged to become more conscious of food waste and actively develop solutions to address it.
