Responsible Consumption Campaign in Educational Centers
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Responsible Consumption Campaign in Educational Centers aims to encourage changes in personal and collective behaviour in the entire population and to encourage commitment to a more responsible lifestyle. All this, with the aim of achieving more sustainable levels of consumption and promoting a more fair and supportive culture.
It has been carried out since 2022 by 2 environmental educators through all the educational centers of the municipalities of the Mancomunitat Intermunicipal de la Ribera Baixa: Albalat de la Ribera, Benicull de Xúquer, Corbera, Cullera, El Perelló, Favara, Fortaleny, Llaurí, Mareny de Barraquetes, Polinyà de Xúquer, Riola, Sollana and Sueca.
In this particular workshop on Friday 22 November, we will work with Primary School students (aged from 6 to 12 years old) from CEIP Mareny de Barraquetes (Sueca, Valencia). We will explain to the students what responsible consumption is and what actions we can take to be good responsible consumers: the 3Rs, how to reduce our waste, how to recycle it, how to save electricity and water, what is the best way to get around (sustainable mobility)…
In addition, the subject of recycling will be also discussed in greater depth, generating good habits in children. Later, we will do a storyteller game with the 5 recycling containers to teach the students to which container we need to throw each waste: the monster-containers Menjatot (grey container for general waste), Vidriola (green glass container), Plastiquet (yellow container for light packaging), Caracartró (blue container for paper and cardboard packaging) and Orgui (brown container for organic waste), will explain to us what each one “eats”.
With a duration of two teaching sessions (1 hour and a half), this storryteller game is supported by the Youtube video “De consumidor a consumidor responsable“, and another game will be also carried out, where the children will “feed” the said containers from a garbage bag. Finally, we will do a craft to reuse materials that we no longer need and give them a second life: specifically, we will create a toy with a toilet paper roll and a plastic cap from a bottle: a fly-eating frog.
In the case of the third cycle of Primary School (students from 10 to 12 years old), we will also work on topics such as: consumerism as a current consumption model, what responsible consumption is, what we can do to be responsible consumers… And we will be dealing with the following subjects: energy and water saving at home and at school, sustainable mobility, and reduction, reuse, separation of waste and subsequent recycling; promoting at all times an environmentally friendly, sustainable, supportive and socially fair consumption. In addition, the students in this cycle will also play an interactive educational game Kahoot! on recycling and responsible consumption.
