Meet our Food Rescue Heroes!

Did you know that every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted globally? That’s one-third of all food produced worldwide! At the Food Rescue Association, we work tirelessly to combat this issue. Food Rescue Association established a concept food bank model in Turkey in 2019, it called as “Social Impact Center (SIC). Our food rescue process involves collecting, storing, and distributing food donations to those in need, ensuring sustainability and humanity at every step. Real stories of families and individuals whose lives have changed thanks to our efforts highlight the impact of our work.

How?

In cooperation with Fazla, every 3 minutes, we rescue food that has lost its sales quality due to various reasons but is still suitable for human consumption from food producers, retailers and distributors via a digital donation platform within the scope of food banking and bring it together with those in need throughout Turkey. We both prevent waste by saving excess food and provide humanitarian aid support to vulnerable groups. We have saved a total of 96,000 tons of food to date and thus prevented 146,000 tons of carbon emissions caused by food waste. The number of people in need that we regularly reach is 1.5 million.

We have been continuing the food rescue movement since the day we were founded. As you know, 13-26 November is European Waste Reduction Week and this year’s theme is “Food Waste”. During European Waste Reduction Week, we continue to bring together the excess food we save with 500 people in need registered in the Social Impact Center every day. The food rescued at the Social Impact Center will be repackaged and offered for reuse and will reach those in need.
