Show Cooking “Sustainability Has Never Tasted So Good!”
• WHAT will be done
Description:
On November 19, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., the cafeteria of the Coimbra School of Agriculture and the Coimbra Institute of Accounting and Administration will host a unique and sustainable culinary experience, a show cooking event entitled “Sustainability Has Never Tasted So Good!”, as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction.
This initiative, organized by the Occupational and Environmental Health Services of the Polytechnic University of Coimbra and the Social Services of the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (SASIPC), aims to raise awareness among the academic community and the general public about the importance of reducing food waste and promoting more mindful culinary practices.
The show cooking event seeks to encourage reflection on consumption habits and to explore creative and sustainable culinary alternatives, offering an opportunity to learn how to transform waste into delicious meals. Through this activity, the initiative hopes to inspire the adoption of more responsible and sustainable eating practices.
The event is open to the entire community of the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (PUC), including students, faculty, and staff.
The Show Cooking initiative particularly supports SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, as it promotes the full utilization of food and sustainable culinary practices, thereby ensuring food security and reducing food waste. It also aligns with SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production by maintaining standards that encourage a circular economy and more conscious consumption. This is achieved by teaching participants how to select ingredients, preserve food, and use all edible parts, highlighting the importance of environmentally respectful eating and minimizing waste across the entire production chain.
