Stop Food Waste – Foraging to Fork
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Our school is blessed with green grounds which set an ideal learning environment. This provides both opportunities and responsibilities in terms of preserving and upkeeping the beauty we are immersed in. While advocating sustainability, we encourage our students to make good use of what our grounds offer, without anything going to waste.
Thus, besides the mainstream crops, students forage carob pods, capers, olives, fallen lemons and oranges. These are either preserved or repurposed in various ways for consumption. Some of our products include preserved lemons and oranges, marmalade, orange cakes, candied peel, fresh orange juice, carob syrup, capers in brine and olive oil. These will then be available for purchase at our school, providing a valuable learning experience.
