TOBB ETU Food Waste Awareness Workshops
• WHAT will be done
Description:
A series of workshops on food waste will be conducted on November 21st, 2024 at TOBB University of Economics and Technology. The workshops will be designed and conducted by the students of Consumer Behaviour module under the supervision of Meltem Ture, the course lecturer and assistant professor of marketing at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. There will be four different workshops held simultaneously, each focusing on food waste from a different angle.
The first workshop will use interactive display of data to draw attention to household food waste and highlight misconceptions. Students will also show printed artworks crafted from food waste and provide participants with practical tips for reducing food waste in their households.
The second workshop will promote an app that is being developed by the students. The app is intended to help students in the school’s dormitories to share their leftover, surplus, unused food items, particularly those with close expiration dates. The third workshop intends to help participants prevent food waste and develop sustainable consumption habits. Students will share tips for creating shopping lists for food purchase, meal planning and food transportation as well as recipes for reusing food.
The fourth workshop will start with an interactive and visual presentation on food waste, and continue with brainstorming sessions where participants will work in small groups to discuss how to reduce food waste. Practical solutions for preventing food waste and ideas for a platform for participants to continue sharing their experiences will also be discussed.
