Tranform waste into treasure!
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Association of Municipalities in the Attica Region (EDSNA) actively participates in the European Week for Waste Reduction, promoting awareness and educational actions on reducing food waste, composting, and recycling with solid waste separation. As part of this initiative, EDSNA will conduct a series of educational activities in schools across Attica, focusing on the importance of reducing food waste and fostering a culture of composting.
One highlight is an interactive activity for kindergarten children, where students will explore how food waste is generated (e.g., over-purchasing, cooking too much) and learn creative ways to reuse leftovers and compost organic waste. The session includes storytelling, games, and hands-on sorting exercises, culminating in a creative workshop where children design flyers for their parents with tips for reducing food waste. At the end of the activity, schools will receive donated compost from EDSNA for their gardening needs.
Simultaneously, a special information kiosk will be set up in a central location, where citizens will be able to learn about the benefits of composting and solid waste separation of recyclable materials. EDSNA will also distribute compost free of charge to encourage its use by citizens to enhance the soil in their gardens.
Through these actions, EDSNA aims to cultivate environmental awareness and inspire a sustainable mindset for waste reduction and environmental protection.
