Want not, Waste not
• WHAT will be done
Description:
We will be working on the theme Food Waste.
To involve the entire school community, students will be sharing posters on our school Office 365 Teams group, on school Facebook and Instagram group. These digital announcements will encouraging individual to share their favorite recipes that utilize extra food or items nearing expiration. By working together as a team, students can establish a standardised template for recipe submissions, ensuring consistency and easy organisation. This template can include fields for the recipe name, ingredients, instructions, and a brief description of how the recipe helps reduce food waste. Once the recipes are collected, students will collaborate and compile them into a visually appealing virtual recipe book. This book can be shared digitally with the school community and posted on the school’s website and social media platforms mentioned above to increase awareness and encourage its use. To further promote the recipe book, students will also organise cooking demonstrations or recipe contests based on the collected recipes, fostering a sense of community and excitement around reducing food waste.
To further reduce waste and promote sustainability, our school will be creating unique jewelry pieces from citrus peel scraps collected from the school community. Students and teacher who teaches Home Economics will contribute their time to dehydrate the citrus peels collected transform these into a beautiful and durable material. During break times or free lessons, students will then create a variety of jewelry items, such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. These handmade creations will be sold at parent-teacher events and during pop-up stands held throughout European Week for Waste Reduction in November, raising awareness about the importance of reducing food waste and supporting local initiatives.
