Our project, “Waste Not, Bake a Lot!” at Junior High School – HAEF Athens College, engages students, teachers, parents, and local and international communities in a series of activities focused on food waste reduction, reuse, composting, and creative zero-waste solutions.

1. Zero-Waste Recipe Competition: A “Zero-Waste Food Recipe” competition will encourage participants to create innovative recipes that maximize the use of ingredients and minimize waste. This event will promote awareness of sustainable food practices by showing how to turn scraps and leftovers into delicious dishes.
2. Composting Workshops: We will hold hands-on workshops where students and parents can bring food scraps, learn about composting, and practice creating compost on-site. The compost produced will later be used for the school’s olive trees, showing the full lifecycle of food and how organic waste can be a resource rather than refuse.
3. “Food Without Footprints: Join the Zero-Waste Kitchen!” Initiative: This activity serves as an open invitation to the school community to reduce food waste in their homes and bring compostable waste to our school’s composting bin. The aim is to make food sustainability practices accessible and to build a communal habit of waste reduction.
4. Educational Outreach and Sharing: We will extend the initiative beyond the school, sharing knowledge with the local community and other international schools, reinforcing a global approach to food waste reduction. Through seminars, social media, and interactive presentations, we hope to inspire sustainable food habits on a wider scale.

By connecting all members of our community, “Waste Not, Bake a Lot!” brings a holistic approach to food waste reduction, involving prevention, reuse, recycling, and composting.
