During the week we will have several smaller actions:

1. Empty Plate – we draw the students´attention to putting only as much food on the plate as they can actually eat. We weigh the amount of wasted food the week before and do it again this week to see if the kids are more mindful about the food they throw away if we actively keep reminding them. We will also design info posters to put on the tables, so while eating they can also read about the food waste issue. There will also be something encouraging written about giving new foods a try. The chefs will also talk to kids about their cooking principles – when something is left over from a previous day, then it won´t be thrown out, but they try to use it in the next day´s dishes, e.g. leftover rice can be used in meatballs.
2. Gums – bigger signs by the bins to remind everyone that chewing gum is not bio waste, but goes into general waste bin.
3. Bio waste – our green school team members do an active campaign by going around and informing everyone about not throwing their apple cores etc into wastebaskets in classrooms, but bio waste bins in the corridors.
4. Don´t throw away money! – our green school team builds a noticeable bin for bottles that have deposit packaging label on them.
5. Collect to recycle – we start collecting aluminium tealight holders and small electronics (phones, cords, chargers), all students and staff can contribute. We will have all the collected electronics on display in February at our annual Valentine´s Day fair, where students and staff can take something if they need it. After that we take them to the recycling centre, aswell as the tealight holders.
