The Region of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace and the Regional District of Rodopi, with the motto “ACT FOR ENVIRONMENT NOW-PROMOTE RECYCLING, intend to implement a bundle of informational actions to promote Waste Reduction-Reuse-Recycling in its responsibility area during the period of the European Waste Reduction Week, November 18-26/2023. The actions will be focused on the promotion of good practices whilst eliminating bad habits, regarding waste management with particular emphasis on the need to recycle waste after separate collection of the various waste streams, and more specifically packaging. In this context, the aim is to raise the awareness of the population of the Region of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace, especially the residents who live in remote towns and villages, regarding 3Rs. Actions include speeches and presentations to primary school students, the future citizens. The selection of the schools from the largest towns of the Rodopi – Rhodopes (e.g., Iasmos, Organis, Sapon, Xylagani, etc.) is carried out by the Directorate of Primary Education of Rodopi, which Directorate will also participate in the planning of the informational events that will take place. Informative material will be produced by white-collar experts from the Department of Environment and Spatial Planning of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace and from Waste Management Authority of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace (DIAAMATH), which is the legal authority for managing the solid waste being produced in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
