Belfast Zoo recycled Christmas decorations and display
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Belfast Zoo will be creating and displaying a selection of Christmas decorations onsite from 29 November as part of the zoo Feel Festive initiative. The decorations will be made using household waste such as plastic bottles/ tin cans, reusing old pallets, and gardening waste . The zoo will use the plastic bottles to create stand alone snowmen; and the tin cans will be used to make holly wreaths. Other bits and bobs will be used to brighten up the decorations, such as old pens/ bottle tops/ tin foil.
The old pallets will be used to create a range of Christmas themed cubes that will be displayed throughout the site. The pallets will have a Christmas themed picture along with recycled items stuck on to represent bobbles using household waste such as pens/ tin foil/ lids. The pallets cubes will be used following this display for making compost.
Gardening cuttings will be used to create animal enrichment, and also to create Christmas images on the side of the pallets.
The zoo will also be encouraging visitors to make their own Christmas decoration using household waste. Visitors will be invited to take part in a competition by submitting a photo of their decoration to be in with a chance to win a goodie bag. Goodie bags will include items the zoo has received as samples over the past year.
