Bouvett’s Marble Collages

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

This action is based on the use of pieces of marble and granite for flooring, which were originally intended for disposal. This is done with practically no extra processing when compared to normal flooring products. In fact, by this action pieces of marble and granite are fitted on the floor in the form of a large collage. The spaces between the pieces are then filled with cement to solidify the floor.

This action avoids marble and granite waste known as construction and demolition waste from entering the waste cycle. Marble manufactures usually dispose this kind of waste into unused quarries at a cost and the waste occupies valuable volume in these limited quarries. This action not only eliminates the need of quarry space but transforms good quality marble and granite waste into a beneficial product. This is done by treating waste as an indispensable resource and reduces the need for virgin materials (dematerialisation). All granite and marble used for this action was obtained free of charge since producers were willing to provide their waste in order to avoid disposal costs. In actual fact they were handing out a valuable product and not a waste.

The different colours of the pieces of marbles and granite can be used to introduce patterns in the flooring. This makes the constructed flooring aesthetically beautiful. This is a type of art that family members can team together to create their own unique and original floor. This is done without any health and environmental harm. Actually, environmental harm is drastically decreased by this action.

Ultimately, this type of flooring is long lasting and can resist any type of weather like any other type of flooring made from virgin material.
