Our project is called “Bring Your Waste to Life”. As the local transport authority of Istanbul, we have lots of waste coming out of maintenance activities in our garages. Some of these waste products can be recycled but some of them are not suitable for recycling. Aware of their negative impact for the environment, our Directorate decided to hold a competition to turn non-recyclable waste into other products. Lots of brilliant projects attended the competition and 24 of them deemed worthy to be exhibited in Karakoy Tunnel Station, one of the oldest metro-like vehicle in the world. These products are flowerpots from suspension bellows and refrigerant bottle, remote-control cars from electronic equipment and bearings, tables from wooden pallets, decorative ornaments from halogen lamps, and coffee tables from tires and metal waste. These 24 products will be exhibited during European Week for Waste reduction in Karakoy Station. It is aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage people to transfer their non-recyclable waste into new products.
