Buy in bulk and reduce that waste!
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The school buys soap in large 25litre jerrycans and children bring their own empty jars from home to be filled with soap on a particular day during EWWR. The jerry cans will be transformed into flower pots to decorate the home or school. Instil the awareness that when buying in bulk we reduce waste. Craft lessons using recycled material to be held by pupils in a state school to generate awareness. Families are encouraged to buy in bulk so as to reduce waste from each household and also by reusing the cans in the way mentioned during craft sessions.
The school distributes stainless steel bottles which are used daily by the children. These are refilled to provide fresh drinking water for the kids during school hours. This initiative helps to reduce the many plastic bottles that are thrown away because they deteriorate after a time. Stainless steel is durable and besides it is healthier to store water in it.
