We are challenging our followers to buy nothing new all year, specifically also no new clothes. We started an online community group, which quickly gathered a few thousand members.

All the members indicated that they are willing to try and not buy new items for one full year, fulfilling the Refuse theme. Also, of course, there is a lot of emphasis on repairing, buying second hand, making do with what you have (making new combinations e.g.) and swapping, thus Reuse.

The members help each other by either posting their dilemma’s or questions in the group. The others respond with their advice. Or, members post about great discoveries they made, proud repairs, or events they are hosting.

It’s a community based initiative, set out to normalise non-new textile consumption.
