• WHAT will be done
Description:
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality will organize workshops, awareness seminars, meetings, fashion shows, concerts and events as part of the “European Waste Reduction Week” in order to help the transition to a climate-neutral circular economy by designing textile products to be more durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable and energy efficient.
The aim of the events prepared with the concept of Sustainable and Cyclic Textile Products;
- Consumers benefitting from high quality and affordable textile products for a longer period of time,
- Consumers preferring long-lasting and recyclable products,
- Expanding economically profitable reuse and repair services, and leaving the fast fashion trend behind,
- Acquiring skills in eco-design, repair and reuse, and transformation,
- In order to increase transparency and sustainability in the transformation of textile wastes and used textile products, cooperation and dialogues with other public, private sector, NGOs and professional chambers will increase.
EVENTS
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has training-oriented course centers in various branches for housewives in the middle and lower income group (ATASEM). “Circular Home Economy” workshops will be organized by ATASEM trainers as part of the European Waste Reduction Week activities at the Environmental Education and Innovation Center.

- The workshop appeals to housewives, individuals who want to contribute to the home economy, and all segments of the society who want to make their children and grandchildren happy. With the sustainable life approach of waste clothes, the participants will receive training on producing rag dolls in this workshop.
In this workshop, it is aimed to contribute to the home economy by making rag dolls with textile waste, to gain the right consumption habits starting from a young age, to play with toys made of natural materials and to use less plastic.

- In this workshop, sitting cushions that can be used both at home and in parks will be made with textile wastes. Thus, you will be able to replace the clothes you wore last summer with colorful and chirpy new covers suitable for your home. It is aimed to upcycle using waste clothes and to contribute to the circular economy.

- Lifestyle needs to be changed for the zero waste approach to become a habit. Since our society has changed its consumption habits in the last twenty years, it is aimed to encourage reuse by making minor repairs or by using up-cycling techniques, thus making a positive contribution to the water footprint.

- In this workshop, the production of blankets, cushions and clothes for our pets from textile wastes will be shown. In this way, it is aimed to re-use all kinds of waste generated in our homes and to contribute to the circular economy. It is aimed to up-cycle by using all kinds of wastes generated in our homes, thus contributing to the circular economy.

- In this workshop, it is aimed to reduce the use of plastic bags in shopping and increase the use of sustainable goods by making cloth bags from textile wastes, thus both upcycling using wastes and contributing to the circular economy.

- There will be an exhibition of lifeless mannequins of Akdeniz University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Textile and Fashion Design, consisting of clothes prepared by applying various design methods using both waste fabrics and unusable clothes. A group consisting of 10 students, will be in the event area in order to create circular economy awareness in fast fashion, green washing, excessive consumption, upcycling and clothing habits among the citizens visiting the shopping center.
