Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Over the course of the year HSBC Malta Foundation has coordinated a several bazaars of clothing and other household items in aid of a number of NGOs working within the community in Malta. These community-driven sales align perfectly with HSBC’s strong belief in sustainability and its determination to bring about positive change in the community.

In addition to generating funds for NGOs, the sales also promote the reuse and recycling of items which are still a long from the end of their life but which are no longer required by the person that purchased them. We continuously collect clothes and other household items for this purpose from HSBC staff and from people who contact us from the community from time to time.

Over the last twelve months, HSBC Malta Foundation has helped coordinate and organised the following number of bazaars including:

  • Three sales of household items and clothing by the HSBC Malta Foundation in aid of the Malta Trust Foundation. The foundation works with young persons going to particular difficulties. A total of Euro 3230 was collected in aid of the Malta Trust Foundation from these 3 sales.
  • One sale in aid of STAND – Striving Towards Ability Not Disability. This NGO was set up over twenty years ago to help people with a disability integrate better in society.  They hold weekly public meetings to help attendees socialize through games, drama, singing, crafts, cultural outings. From this sale the amount of Euro 500 was collected.
  • One sale in aid of  Our Hands for the Missions, a local missionary group that works in some of the poorest corners of the world.
  • 10 local schools partecipated in the collected organised by the HSBC Foundation Malta that collected items collected items like jewellery and toiletries which were later on donated to a number of local NGOs working with vulnerable women on the occasion of International Women’s Day
  • HSBC Staff and their friends also donated a range of toys which were distributed during the Christmas holidays to NGOs working with children.
  • A collection of men’s toiletries and men’s items is being organised on the occasion of International Men’s Day. Similar to the initiative with International Women’s Day, the HSBC Malta foundation will be coordinating the donation of items to those in need. This could range from the donation of essential toiletries to shop owners offering free meal or drink vouchers, or even a haircut to those members of the community who are most in need. The emphasis of the collection drive will be both to help but also to do so in as sustainable a way as possible. The donation of the items will be held on 18th November 2023 during European Week for Waste Reduction.
  • A number of books collected by a number of HSBC staff members were lately donated to the New Hope, the Female Programme at the San Blas Community and to the Tal-Ibwar Programme in Siggiewi , both programmes being run by Caritas Malta. This initiative was driven by one of the Climate Action Network Teams at HSBC Bank Malta.
