Cloughmills Community Fridge

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Cloughmills Community Fridge aims to focus householders and businesses on food waste by offering an opportunity to redirect food destined for landfill to those who either need it or can make use of it. The Community Fridge is a space where individuals or businesses can drop off food which is not going to be eaten. We then advertise this through a food sharing facebook page and people can collect what they need. It is also an opportunity for food growers to leave any surplus or glut which may not be used.

Durring EWWR we will be revitalising our facebook page to make it more interactive and user friendly. We want people to share directly with each other as opposed to sending everything to us at the central hub. We will also be targeting all households in our area with a view to increasing the amount of food left with us from homes.

We are also launching a batch cooking club during EWWR with a view to using surplus food as a tool for bringing people together, teaching new skills and creating a new sense of community as well as feeding people!

We are also launching our Community Fridge + scheme which will make kitchen equipment available to people in an effort to reduce household bills. The idea here is that we can as a community own goods collectively with these being shared when people need them. We are purchasing a dehydrator, food mixer, bread maker, juicer and spiraliser to begin with and these will be available for one week at a time at a nominal cost.
