Throughout the year children are encouraged to bring to school any plastic bottle caps that they would otherwise throw away. There is a big refuse bin allocated to this and any children who bring plastic bottle caps place them in this collection bin themselves. The bags full of bottle tops are then seen by the children and stored for collection by Waste serve. This collection forms part of a nation-wide campaign to collect funds for charity. During waste promotion week we plan to send reminders to the parents and show the children the amount collected for this year to try and encourage and remind them to contribute to this scheme which involves separation of waste in the home and encouraging the concept of recycling as the bottle caps are later sent for recycling since they are made of thick plastic.
