Passcode: 128640

The conference aims to put into correlation, highlighting their deep links, some issues that have a strong social value, focusing on the fight against food waste – to be considered both as a waste of food still suitable for eating, evaluating its economic and environmental costs – and the waste of food intended as overeating, which not only has significant impacts on the environment but also, through an unnecessary but above all harmful nutrition, on health and therefore on the national health and economic systems. The meeting is attended by speakers from the National Association of Engineers for the Environment and the Territory, the Rotary District 2110 Sicily and Malta, the University of Catania and the University of Palermo, the Banco Alimentare Sicilia Onlus and the Generous Heart Protocol. Other speakers will be able to join the conference.

The meeting aims to focus on the different food wastes and their effects on the environment but also on the abuse of food linked to an unbalanced food expenditure, especially in childhood and youth, highlighting its effects in terms of prospective adult obesity and related health costs. Emphasis will also be placed on the role that associations and club services can play both in terms of information and support for service initiatives in the territory – starting from the spread, in schools, of a culture of sustainable food expenditure and on the Mediterranean diet – and from a strong support to the action of the food bank.
