Decorative awning for the internal yard
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Every year in Malta, each town and village, celebrates a festive feast celebrating one or more patron saints of said towns. Most of these feasts have rivalries which contribute to celebrations and spending of non-recyclable material. As part of the celebrations people gather from the early morning to the evening in the band club’s internal yard. Since August is considered one of the hottest months of the year, and the internal yard tends to be in direct sunlight, the Kummissjoni Zghazagh Guzeppini Hamrun (KZG) took the initiative to create a decorative awning created from festive flags used in previous annual feasts. The use of this awning helps to shade the musicians, the band club’s members and other visitors who come to enjoy the festivities in the internal yard from direct sunlight. With this idea the KZG managed to not only limit the budget to be used in the festivities but also recycling and reducing the adverse impact on the environment, create a celebrative environment and move towards a greener, environment friendly type of shading.
