E-Waste is Hazardous

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

The Siggiewi Local Council through its Day Centre, Children’s Local Council, Youth Local Council and in collaboration with The Siggiewi Primary School, will plan a discussion on e-waste and its hazardous effects.

The Children and Youth Council will meet on Saturday 17 November 2018 to plan artwork for an original e-waste bin where the public can later dispose of mobile phones or smaller gadgets. The bin together with an information board, will be placed in the square or venue of each of the Local Council’s public events. The signs and information on the bin will therefore be prepared by these young people and children, based on research that they will do beforehand and in meetings prior to this activity.

On Thursday 22 November 2018, the Siggiewi Day Care Centre and students from the Primary School will be invited to participate in a discussion on e-waste and its hazardous effects. They will then colour the artwork with permanent markers and at the same time discuss the message prepared for the bin.

On Saturday 24 November 2018, the Children and Youth Council will finalise the bin.

All of these events will be filmed and an online campaign will explain to the public, the message from these events, and the message on the bin. The original bin and an information board on e-waste will start to be placed in all public events organised by the Local Council, thus enhancing information on e-waste and its hazardous effects while encouraging the correct disposal of such gadgets.
