This year we will cooperate with the Women’s Association of Sifnos “to Smari” and we invite youngers and olders to participate in the action to reduce the fabrics that would otherwise end up in the trash, giving them a second chance at life and reuse.
Participants can bring old clothes and fabrics or use some of what the Association has collected.
Different techniques and tools will be used (looms, sewing machines, hand sewing, knitting, etc.). Also, free clothing repair and processing courses will be delivered to those who are interested.
It is an action that recalls the good practices and habits of the past. Nothing is thrown away and there is a way to reuse everything.
The oldest inhabitants of the island knew this well and made rags (carpets), covers, pillows, bags, decorative and useful items from their old fabrics.
With this action we will use the older volunteers to teach the wisdom of the past to the younger ones.
This is an action that is genuine, substantial and focused precisely on this year’s theme of the EWWR.
