FOREST AND AGRICULTURAL WASTE: A RISK TO NATURE
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The environmental impact caused by littering or throwing garbage on the ground has serious consequences for the planet. In this sense, the abandonment of waste, also known as littering, has become a widespread phenomenon in natural environments, which makes clear the need to increase citizen awareness of the problem.
One of the consequences derived from this type of bad practices is the increased risk of fires in the natural environment. For example, according to the latest statistics, only in the first five months of the year have more hectares of forest been burned in EU than in the average of the last decade.
Summer becomes a time of high risk. Temperatures, wind and lack of rains further increase the possibility of a fire occurring in the countryside. A reality that is aggravated by certain human activities or attitudes: more than 90% of the fires that occur in our country, either directly or indirectly, have their origin in activities developed by humans in the field.
For these reasons, the event “Forest waste: a risk to nature” wants to show European experiences about prevention, firefighting and energy transformation (waste-to-energy) in forest fires.
Agenda:
– Presentation of European project Interreg CILIFO. Debate about firefighting and prevention of forest fires.
– Presentation of the Firefighting Startup Europe Awards.
– Networking and brainstorming of ideas regarding forest waste reduction in order to prevent forest fires.
– Examples of waste-to-energy transformation: agricultural waste and livestock waste
