The school basement was practically a dump site for broken/unwanted furniture. The current space allocated for the Nurture Group was too small. More space was needed! Joint effort between SMT, Nurture staff and students made it possible to clear and clean up this space. Obviously, to furnish the space and make it useful as a Nurture Class (including a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, circle time area, lunch club area, craft area and EkoSkola area) a lot of furniture (including lots of tables, chairs and storage cupboards) was needed. Unfortunately no funds were available. School furniture which was going to be thrown away was chosen by the students and Nurture Group Staff with the intention to salvage all that was possible. This furniture requires sanding, cleaning and painting. Through the use of social media, school blog and word of mouth, it is aimed to furnish the whole area as needed. Some donations have already started arriving (a new cooker, an old kitchen cabinet and a broken sofa). During the European Week for Waste Reduction calls for more furniture, stuff and resources (educational board games, toys, cushions, dishes, chairs, cabinets, video/dvd player, computers, notice boards, etc) will be made. Parents and students will be asked to come and help us painting and upcycling whatever is donated. The aim of this Nurture Class is to function in the most sustainable and self-sufficient way possible.
