General Lyceum of Nigrita – Students observe and take action against the problem of overpackaging
• WHAT will be done
Description:
ACTIONS PLANNED for the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR):20th-24th November 2023
The students make their own recycling bins out of big supermarket cardboard boxes and sorting out their wastes into plastic and paper. These waste containers will be placed at the front entrance of our school and the students will be encouraged to use them to the most.
During the 20th -24th November Action Week, the teachers are planning to sensitize students and launch discussions, presentations or play educational videos that try to raise awareness on adopting policies that reduce over packaging and lead to ‘Zero Waste’ thinking. A workshop is going to follow the theoretical presentation where children will collaborate to produce cardboard logos-phrases using recyclable materials like plastic bottles so that they will encourage students to avoid or eliminate over packaging in order to show how crucial it is for our planet to reduce packaging waste in the upcoming years. At the same time another group of students are going to observe all around the schoolyard and the out of school surrounding area and note down or take some pictures of some spare packaging wastes that were misplaced and thrown away out of the recycling bins.
Furthermore, students will be encouraged to reduce food packaging and the use of bottled water or replace bottled water with flasks that will be filled with running water.
