Giving new life to textiles

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

The teachers will inform the students about the impact of the textiles on our environment, in terms of use of natural resources, waste production
and water and in terms of air and land pollution. The information and relevant activities aim at introducing our students to a sustainable way of acting, following the guidance of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). The Toolbox of the thematic focus: Circular and Sustainable Textiles, will guide the organization of the presentations.

Activities

  1. We will organize workshops at school, with the help of parents and grandparents too. The students will bring from home leftover fabric scraps, old clothes and socks in order to repurpose them. We will make cotton bags, sous plats, toys, beeswax wraps for food and decorative items. Each class will do different products.
  2. In the end we will make an exhibition of these products at school  and we will invite the students of another school to present our work and explain the value of repurposing textiles.
  3. The students will collect clothes which they no longer want and they will donate to a charity organization of our neighborhood.
  4.  The older students will make digital posters, infographics and tutorials with the purpose to inform and to invite a larger community to adopt our practices.
