Actions to be taken on the Thematic Project – Packaging

With the thematic focus on packaging, during EWWR 2023 Malta Freeport will be taking various actions to collectively reduce the environmental impact of packaging materials, encourage responsible consumption, and promote innovative solutions to packaging waste.

  1. Raising Awareness

MFT will be collaborate with Birzebbuga Primary School and Birzebbuga Girl Guides and Scouts to conduct discussions and participate in art projects using packaging waste encouraging them to become Ambassadors to promote more awareness.

Social media platforms will be used to create awareness campaigns centered on packaging waste. Will encourage employees and people to reduce single-use plastic packaging. This can be achieved through alternatives like cloth bags, glass containers, and stainless steel water bottles. Encourage individuals to adopt a packaging-free lifestyle by reducing their consumption of single-use packaging and making more sustainable choices.

Advocate for zero-waste shopping practices, emphasizing the importance of using bulk bins and reusable containers. Moreover, leading by example on repairing and reusing packaging materials, such as containers and bags, rather than disposing of them after a single use.

Conclusion

Malta Freeport will be participating in EWWR not just to take temporary action during the designated week but to cultivate lasting habits and mindsets that promote sustainable packaging practices and the management of other waste materials. With concentrated efforts and continuous commitment, we can work towards a future where packaging waste is minimized, and our planet benefits from a healthier, cleaner environment.
