Green packaging helps protect our common home
• WHAT will be done
Description:
In preparation, following a visit by Wasteserv officers at the school, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils will first carry out observation at the Wasteserv facility, to see how much packaging is being thrown away. They will then visit the Civic Amenity Site Recycling services, to see what can be recycled and what not. During EWWR they will be visiting a Detergent shop to have their Jerry cans refilled, rather than adding waste through buying small plastic containers of detergent. Back at school they will be preparing posters with messages on the importance of reducing packaging in different ways. Throughout the week, pupils will go out in the streets wrapped in different packaging so that they can spread the message that certain packaging more than others, is harming the environment and is not recyclable. During that same week (EWWR) students from years 3 and 4 will be working with used wrapping paper we had collected last year after Christmas, to calculate what area this wrapping paper covers, and how many trees had to be chopped down for this non-recyclable paper to be produced. A clean-up will be carried out by Year 5 and 6 students in an area across the road from the school.
