Greening the Atrium

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

EWWR will launch a new, greener, operation in the Belfast City Council staff restaurant. In an effort to reduce costs a few years ago the restaurant introduced disposable cups for water and hot drinks, and the option for take out containers made from Styrofoam. This year for EWWR the Waste Management Service staff have worked with the catering team to introduce a more sustainable approach. There will be no single-use plastic cups at the water machine and instead there will be reusable tumblers to fill from water jugs or the water machine. There will be incentives for staff to bring their own reusable cup to the hot drinks machine, and there will be a fully compostable alternative for take-out food. A full communications campaign will run before and during the Week to keep staff informed of changes and to encourage participation.
The aim of this Project is to introduce behaviour change and a new mind-set in favour of reusable cups for water and hot drinks both during EWWR and in the long term.
