Improving staff recycling behaviour through consistent recycling services

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

In line with Belfast City Council’s sustainability commitments and encouraging a better, greener future for Belfast as per the Belfast Agenda, the Recycling Outreach Team have been working to upgrade the internal bin system across the Belfast City Council estate. With 2,500 employees across multpile sites it is a big project that has taken some months to deliver. During EWWR the team will distribute almost 100 bins for food waste, dry mixed recycling and landfill waste to around 30 Community Centres across the city. Although there has always been recycling and waste reduction activities at these sites they have been irregular. The new bins will focus attention and deliver a consistent approach to effective waste management for all staff and customers at council sites. We hope that this new approach will make a real difference to the amount of waste the council sends to landfill, and help increase the amount of resources that are sent for recycling. The bins that we are installing were made locally in Northern Ireland and are made using recycling materials, thus helping to promote a circular economy, and helping us to educate our staff in what it means to be resource-efficient.
