As Kadıköy Municipality, we have been carrying out effective collection activities for reducing and recycling all kinds of waste at source since 2000.

In addition to our waste collection services, in 2020, we started our “Waste-Free Life Movement Project” with the philosophy of “Life Without Waste”, which is essential for our future.

With this project, we are taking innovative steps to prevent waste from being created, not to lose its value as soon as it is created and, if possible, to recycle it. Shop (Waste Free Shop), Mobile (Providing waste collection service at certain intervals at 29 points throughout the district by mobile vehicle), Street (Waste Free Life Street) and Reduction of Disposable Plastics constitute the basic steps of our movement.

Specific to the European Waste Reduction Week; With the support of the Waste-Free Life Movement by Kadıköy Municipality; there will be organized an Upcycling Festival at the Ecological Living Center.

Barter Festival and Sewing Workshops will be held at the event, which will be announced via our social media accounts. After festival, in which clothes that need repair or sewing, etc., where unused but usable items can be exchanged, items will be repaired and reused in the sewing workshop, bags and similar products will be sewn and sewing training will be given.

With these studies, we aim to raise awareness that our textile goods can be easily brought into a suitable condition for reuse without the need to buy new ones, and that textile products can be used again and again without going to landfills.
