Litter Less Campaign (LLC)
• WHAT will be done
Description:
In the Litter Less Campaign for the Eco-Schools programme, participating schools will implement the Campaign through the Seven Steps.
Each school is required to monitor the waste and litter produced in schools with the aim of improving the waste management treatment. Each school also implements one Community Action Day, involving the whole school as well as parents, local stakeholders and Wrigley associates.
The campaign targets the behaviour, knowledge and opinion leadership of students. It aims for a 5-10% improvement.
The Litter Less Campaign for the YRE programme mainly focuses on the production of a journalistic piece (article, photograph, or video report).
Participants of the Litter Less Campaign investigate a local litter issue, for example the effect on local wildlife or human health, the packaging most often discarded by people, etc. Journalistic productions in the form of articles, photographic reportage, or video clips must be produced. The production must include suggestions for solutions on minimising litter.
YRE students or student groups share their investigations by posting articles, photographs and videos through the YRE network. Students are also encouraged to disseminate their work in other ways, for example via print, broadcast or social media.
During the EWWR schools specifically will be e.g. on Malta will have a turtle release, clean up, workshops related to litter less. Individual schools will have waste free week at school, upcycling of elctronics, textiles, individual clean ups, etc and in Northern Ireland for example waste audit, composting, reducing food waste, clothing recycling (see Cash for Clobber below) or setting up battery recycling at schools will be organised.
