LitterSmart is a community focused partnership between Council and groups a or individuals across our Borough. It provides support for those groups or individuals who wish to become involved in cleaning up their areas. It is a clearly branded campaign and is a clarion call for everyone to take action. There are three key elements:

1. We will make litter lifting equipment available to individuals or groups across our community and facilitate collections and communications through the provision of posters or flyers if necessary.

2. We will empower individuals or families to pick up at least one piece of litter when out for a walk through our ‘Two Hands’ project which suggests that if its safe to lift litter with your hands then please do so. It’s a simple concept but by articulating this we believe people will feel empowered and confident to do so.

3. We will be mapping all activity and participating groups through a story map. This is interactive with members of the public able to upload photos of litter and litter lifts in action. Again for people this has the added impact of creating a real sense of being part of a movement rather than operating in isolation.
