WHAT will be done

Description:

The Company will be organising a team-building activity for its employees which will focus on the theme of EWWR 2021 – Thematic Circular Communities. The team-building event will commence with a presentation from an official from Wasteserv Malta so that the participants will have a better understanding of the thematic project and the importance of implementing the 3 Rs in their daily lifestyles.

After the presentation, Malta Freeport Terminal’ employees and representatives from the clubs that Malta Freeport Terminals sponsors and employees from Malta Freeport Corporation will be given the task to regenerate a recreation green area within the locality by planting trees and using recycling materials to create a feature which will embellish the area in collaboration with Birzebbuga Local Council.

Freeport employees and locals will be encouraged to start composting. A demonstration on the basic practice of the Do’s and Don’ts of composting will be held in the area of the team building activity

Freeport employees and locals of Birzebbuga will be encouraged to participate in a ’Bring and Buy’ Market of clothes, toys and books. The proceeds will be used for the purchasing of trees to be planted within the locality. Any items left from the market will be given to the local parish church.

Employees and locals from Birzebbga will be encouraged to bring electronic items which are no longer in good working condition to be repaired by MCAST students. Repair is essential to make sure that products last longer, reducing the need to extract new resources and the climate impact that comes with it.

Participants will be given the task to approach local shops, banks, police station, restaurants, and bars in the locality to disseminate information on the awareness of the 3Rs.

The participants will be attending the Birzebbuga Primary School and helping students with craft-making from reused fabric collected in collaboration with the Birzebbugia Local Council. The participants of the team building activity will also create a feature for the school’s recreation area made from reused items.

The Wateserv Roadshow has been invited to visit the Birzebbuga locality where the team building activity will be held to make it easier for the locals to dispose of their waste with care and protect the environment in the process.

We will place recycling bins in the area where the team building activity will be held so that where it is possible the locals will dispose of separately of plastic, metal, paper, glass, unsorted waste, cigarette butts, and old batteries.

A clean-up campaign by all the participants from Malta Freeport Terminals, clubs that Malta Freeport Terminals sponsors, employees from Malta Freeport Corporation, and Birzebbuga Local Council will be organised on the day of the location of the team building event.

We will be encouraging employees to bring plants for their offices and implementing composting making as a daily routine at the staff canteens.
