PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE !
• WHAT will be done
Description:
“Good waste management begins with preventing waste being produced in the first place. Waste prevention is becoming more and more important as the global population increases and we eat away at our finite supply of natural resources”.
This initiative is about convincing a minimum of 10% of staff working at HSBC Bank Malta plc to move away from using plastic bottled water and instead install a domestic reverse osmosis plant.
This challenge will be met by :
a) Issuing a communication to all staff explaining the huge impact waste has on the environment, causing pollution and gas emissions that contribute to climate change, but putting an emphasis on plastic – the energy intensive process to produce and dispose, and the impact on the environment when plastic bottles are disposed incorrectly.
b) Informing staff of the benefits of installing an RO plant – ie convenience, doing away with carrying, traveling, storing, disposing, cost, etc.
c) HSBC Bank Malta plc facilitates the purchase of the RO plants by doing all the homework to get the best deal for staff.
d) HSBC ‘Catch The Drop’ Campaign to subsidise the cost of each RO plant by 25% of its cost (max €100) up to a total subsidy of €15k.
By this initiative, a minimum of 150 staff / families will stop using plastic bottled water, avoiding the production and disposal of 135,000 bottles per year ! This initiative will be contagious, in the sense that it extends the reach and effect beyond the staff members, to family and friends !
