The project developed by MAR Shopping Algarve aims to create a positive impact on society and the environment, aligning with its vision of improving people’s daily lives and promoting sustainability. The initiative focuses on Social & Environmental Impact themes and seeks to support communities in socio-economic vulnerability, including social solidarity institutions (IPSSs).
What the project involves:
1, Plastic Bottle Cap Collection: The project promotes the collection of plastic bottle caps, which will later be converted into financial value.
2. Environmental Awareness: In addition to cap collection, the project aims to increase environmental awareness, emphasizing the importance of recycling and environmental preservation.
3. Provision of orthopedic equipment and/or medical services and/or health services: The project aims to provide orthopedic equipment, medical services, or health services to communities in socio-economic vulnerability, improving the quality of life for individuals with special needs.

How the project works:

1. Partnership with the Municipality of Loulé and community involvement to support through the donation of plastic bottle caps.
2. Collection of caps, followed by their conversion into financial value.
3. Identification and selection of beneficiaries and their needs

The artistic piece developed to represent the project was inspired by environmental protection, specifically focusing on the situation of seahorses in Ria Formosa. This region experiences anthropogenic disturbances affecting marine life, including seahorses, which are endangered. The piece aims to raise awareness about the threats faced by these species, such as illegal capture and marine pollution.

The artist responsible for creating the artwork is João Jesus, a local craftsman who uses recycled materials in his creations. He is known for his talent in transforming used motorcycle and bicycle parts into art, demonstrating his skill in material recycling.

This project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, showcasing MAR Shopping Algarve’s commitment to contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive world. It promotes awareness of critical environmental issues and supports vulnerable communities.
