Peristeri, is a suburb of Athens in Greece. Its population is 139.000 ihabitants and has forty-eight (48) primary schools.

During the European Week for Waste Reduction,the Directorate of the Environment of the Municipality of Peristeri, is going to organize the following action:

Twenty (20) recycling corners are going to be installed in twenty primary schools in the region of Peristeri, from 16 to 24 November 2019. At every recycling corner there are three bins collecting packaging, paper and lids respectively (Plastic lids are collected separately because they follow a different heat treatment from the other plastic packaging. A plastic lid collecting company provide the Municipality of Peristeri with one wheelchair for disable people, per ton of plastic lid).

Each recycle bin has a picture of a dove because the word “Peristeri” in the Greek language means “the dove”. The dove is the mascot of the action and motivates pupils to recycle.

Through this action pupils will be trained to implement separate waste collection and learn the importance of recycling in saving natural resources.
