Recycling our way to a better future

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Together with the Ħad-Dingli Scouts Group we are going to use pallets used in industrial productions to make picnic benches and benches to be used in the locality especially on the Dingli Cliffs area very frequented by tourists and Maltese alike.

The Scouts Group will also make garlands with recycled material, leaves and cones which fall from trees. These will be used in the pjazza to decorate the lamp posts.

Together with the Ħad-Dingli Primary school we are going to build a greenhouse made out of used wood and plastic bottles to cultivate herbs and crops also in line with the Dinja Waħda and water cultivation programmes together with aiding in the reduction, re-use and recycling initiatives. Together with the School and local NGOs we will also collect broken or no longer used crayons to make crayon candles.

Together with the Dingli Day Centre, the elderly attending will be using used wool from unused clothes to make scarves, gloves, and other knitwear to be given to the needy, missionary workers and institutions in Malta. The Recycled Clothes Show will see various experts giving advise on consumer responsibility, textile re-use, the impacts of textile disposal and wider waste issues, as well as over-packaging.

With Għaqda Talent Dingli they will be using old cloths to make the largest Christmas sock, and Christmas elf factory from used and recycled materials.

The Dingli Crafts Group will together with the Dingli Girl Guides will use plastic and other recycled material including textiles to set up an exhibition for the Christmas season.

The WorkShop is an initiative whereby unused items collected from households as well as items broken and in need of repair together with items which would otherwise be thrown out will be collected and people may come to the Council to repair or reuse the item. The event as proposed is a spontaneous synergy between different players, skills and resources.

The Council will also team up with local enterprises to reuse car tires and transform them into pot bases, bins as well as seating facilities. Another local enterprise will lecture visitors on seasonal fruit conservation.

A clean up will be organised together with all NGOs to clean up an extensive area in Ħad-Dingli.

There will also be a targeted campaign to reminder of instructions on sorting of packaging, paper waste, green
waste, household chemical waste, bulky waste.

We teamed up with Mount Carmel Hospital and asked residents to send us their unused Christmas decorations which will in turn be used to decorate a children’s ward in the Hospital.

Through the Local collector we embarked on a project to collect milk and juice cartoons for which the local collector will then donate money to further the Istrina Cause (an annual national charity event)
