Reduce and Recycle for Maths
• WHAT will be done
Description:
We are a team of numeracy support teachers who have devised a set of demo lessons aimed at the early years. For this purpose we prepared all the necessary resources used from recycled and reusable materials that everyone would have at home and usually is disposed of. We are building a Maths Train, composed of shoe box carriages, each containing an activity aimed at teaching a mathematical concept.
Materials that will be used in this project are shoe boxes, old fabric, yogurt cups, bottle caps, cork tops, toilet paper rolls, old shoe laces, buttons, old cardboard, egg cartons, used envelopes, used CD and coloured pencils or crayons.
The lessons will be run daily, during the European week for waste reduction, in a number of different Church Schools in Malta. Hence we will be reaching out to a considerable number of teaching staff, pupils and parents alike. The idea will also be uploaded on a social media page for the public to see and copy ideas from. EWWR representatives are welcome to come and see our action taking place at Sacred Heart Primary School, St.Julians on Wednesday 22nd November 2017.
