Solo exhibition by German artist Emanuel Mooner (Munich) in the Cloister of the Abbey of Valvisciolo, open for free from 27th November until January 2023.
The exhibition reflects on enviromental issues such as waste recycling, sustainability and ecological choices, especially in light of the water crisis that still affects many countries. It consists in a site-specific installation and a series of sculptures made of plastic debris from the sea. All scraps has been collected at the beach in Grosseto (Tuscany) several years ago and then brought to Munich and used by the artist to realize resin led sculptures. Plus, Mooner has designed a site-specific installation for the cloister’s well, a very important symbolic and functional element of the abbey, although disused for years. After cleaning up the water by removing garbage and coins thrown by visitors and tourists, Mooner will accumulate plenty of marine plastic debris inside the well. Thus, people will not be able to look at the bottom of the well, nor to flip a coin for good luck. The artist leads the public to look at waste heap, trying to spread awareness about the urge of sustainable daily life choices and about waste recycling as a good practice to reduce our impact on this planet.
