BOOK WORKSHOP OF COUCIL OF RETIRED PEOPLE

We are the Nilüfer City Council and we work with our volunteer citizens who care about their living space. There are citizens’ councils formed within our body and one of them is Council of Retired People.

Our retiree’s council has been collecting books in the Nilüfer district for nine years. They sort the books they collect into levels and box them. They bring these books together with children in need. The books are sent to schools in rural areas in need in Turkey. They recycle books that are unusable. They use the financial income from recycling to pay for the shipping of good books they send to children.

The aim of the Retirees Assembly Book Workshop is to unearth unused books, to enable those in need to reuse them, to recycle the unused ones and, most importantly, to activate retired individuals.

In 2022, we reached 36 cities and 135 schools with 18076 books.

Since 2012, we have reached 78 cities and 822 schools with 107350 books.

This year, we will make a call to citizens during the 19-27 November European Waste Reduction Week. We will try to maximize the number of books for this week.
