On the first day of school, all water bottles started being sold from the school tuck-shop at an extra charge of 10c. A chart stuck to the tuck-shop wall informed the students of a 10c refund when the empty plastic bottle and cap are returned.

Later on in the week, students were properly addressed during the school assembly and the whole procedure and the reasons behind it were also explained. The aim is to encourage recycling and to minimise plastic in the school grounds and outside.

A number of returned bottles are being kept for use as plant pots in a future project about Vertical Gardening which should start later on this scholastic year. The rest are sent for recycling. The caps are collected and handed over to a teacher who is in charge of collecting and sending caps to Istrina. This cap collection has been going on in our school for several years.
