SERRiously Sustainable
• WHAT will be done
Description:
After the successful participation of the University of Pavia in EWWR 2021, this year we decided to take part again involving the 7 partner Universities of the European Campus of City-Univerisities (EC2U) Alliance project and other local realities.
One of the objectives of EC2U is to foster green nudges, that’s why the University of Pavia launched a call to action during the plenary council at the 5th EC2U Forum in Iasi held from 10 to 13 October, to organise a joint campaign.
This year’s action will focus on the topic of textile waste and sustainabile fashion. The program starts on 19 November with a conference in the Aula Magna of the University opened by the Rector and hosting experts from academia, green influencers and local sustainable entrepeneurs.
The conference is structured as follows:
1) Speech on the impact of the textile industry on the environment and people, by Valeria Barbi (among her positions, she is European Climate Pact Ambassador);
2) “Change of paradigm: Good examples and best practices”, testimonials by local artisans and small enterprises active in the recycling, upcycling, and circular economy practices (Respect Life, RifòLab).
The conference will be followed by a swap party open to students and citizens, including international ones thanks of the involvement of students’ organisations. Clothes which will not be swapped will be donated to Ukraine through the BridgeNET project, coordinated by the University of Pavia. The University will also inaugurate the use of a “shared closet” to be placed at University to allow people to swap clothes all year long, borrowing common clothes, available to the community. The day will conclude with a networking drink with a dj-set.
The University of Pavia organises, after the opening event, other activities during the EWWR, to keep the academic community and civil society engaged on the topic:
● 23/11, Creative Textile Packaging: “Creative and Sustainable Christmas Packages.”
This workshop will be organised by the youth-run association “Sfuso&Diffuso” from Liguria region and will be held at the bookshop “Il Delfino” that, for the occasion, will also set up a corner dedicated on books focusing on the topics of EWWR and do a small book presentation. A networking happy hour will follow the session.
● 26/11, Sewing Workshop: “Recover and reinvent a clothing item.”
This workshop will be held by at Folladisopralab (Francesca dell’Angelo) at “Circolo Via d’Acqua“, ARCI section. The workshop will be opened by opened by green influencers, recording a podcast before the workshop. A networking vegan happy hour will be offered to participants at the end of the day.
