Hazardous Waste theme: The action is media publicity (press release and media interviews) to publicise the Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHWC) programme, a national programme carried out in Ireland in 2018 to encourage householders to safely dispose of common hazardous chemicals found around the home. The programme aimed to raise awareness of such substances and direct householders towards more environmentally sound ways of cleaning, gardening and home maintenance. The collection programme was funded by the Irish government and coordinated by Ireland’s three Regional Waste Offices. The media campaign undertaken during the EWWR is intended to again raise awareness of hazardous substances in the home and of alternatives to these, as well as providing feedback to the Irish public about the volumes and types of waste collected.
